Part 1. Melissa (the girlfriend) - 1982. At a London drama school we are introduced to a small group of students whose fortunes we follow throughout.

Part 2. Shirley (the leading lady) - 1985. Our student actors enter the professional theatre world as the city erupts in riots.

Part 3. Stella (the fiancé) - 1990. It’s five years later and we learn the fate of each of our budding performers.
